Running for a Cause: My Journey to the London Marathon
Share
Dear Coffee Lovers,
This month, I want to share something deeply personal—one of the driving forces in my life. At Ethnico, we believe in making ethical and meaningful choices, not just in coffee but in everything we do. This belief is why I’ve decided to take on a challenge that’s about more than just personal achievement—running the 2025 TCS London Marathon to support a cause that truly matters.
Why I’m Running the London Marathon
I’m a proud dad to three amazing children: Charlie, Tomas, and Valeria. Like many parents, I look at the world today and think about the challenges young people face—uncertainty, financial hardship, and the struggle to find their path.
That’s why I’m running, not just for myself but to support The Outward Bound Trust, a charity that helps young people build resilience, self-belief, and a connection to nature through outdoor experiences.
At nearly 50, training for a marathon isn’t easy—the body ages fast, and every mile is a challenge. But that’s exactly the point. I want to show my children, and young people everywhere, that with courage, determination, and support, anything is possible.
Why The Outward Bound Trust?
This charity empowers young people aged 9 to 25 by giving them the opportunity to:
✅ Believe in themselves and their ability to overcome challenges.
✅ Cope better with stress and uncertainty in their daily lives.
✅ Build strong relationships and communication skills through teamwork.
What makes The Outward Bound Trust even more special is its commitment to inclusivity. Over 80% of participants receive financial assistance, ensuring that no young person is held back due to financial barriers.
Why This Matters to Me
I grew up in Mexico, but my family’s roots now stretch across the world—Valeria was born in Weimar, Charlie in Puerto Vallarta, and Tomas in Liverpool. Our connection to nature and community has shaped our lives, and I’ve seen firsthand how these experiences can transform young people.
Charlie is a tree hugger and mini farmer, Valeria is training to be a midwife, and Tomas, who was born prematurely, reminds me every day of the power of resilience and the importance of those who dedicate their lives to helping others.
Running this marathon is my way of giving back. It’s not just about crossing the finish line—it’s about showing my children, and others, that with hard work and a big heart, we can make a difference for the next generation.
